This list was prompted in discussion with someone who felt slighted that I did not view them as a
team member, so I wanted to create a somewhat concrete definition.
The purpose is not to draw up division between people but rather to express the aspects of an
individual whom you might consider and rely on as part of a team, to accomplish a specific goal;
in the context of a software development project.
Dictionary Definition: A person belonging to a specific group of people involved in attempting to
achieve a common goal. | |
Team Members defined in the context of a Software Delivery Team (Scrum Team, Agile Team, or other term appropriate):
- They are known to every other member by first name, name they will reply to, or handle -
The later items indicate greater familiarity
- They are required to complete the work, without their deliverables the solution would not be complete
- Someone who understands the vision for the product and hollistically contributes to the success
of the team and the deliverables
- Cares about all the deliverables and not just those assigned to them
- Someone who contributes or adds a defined or known skill to the team
You must have all of these aspects present to be considered a Team Member.
If you are missing aspects above you may be ardently interested and inquisative Observer but not a Member.

That's great - more thought than I ever put into it!
I feel like they are all subsets of the dictionary definition: A person belonging to a specific group of people involved in attempting to achieve a common goal.
