- Ghosts of Seattle Past A comprehensive anthology about businesses and other locaitons that are gone from seattle.
- Evicted, by Matthew Desmond A multi account from the perspectives of landlords and tenants in milwaukee supplemented by thorough socioligical research
- How to Kill a City: Gentrification, Inequality, and the Fight for the Neighborhood, by Peter Moskowitz
You can see about getting involved in any of these organizations for volunteer opportunites or other ways to help.
- Downtown Emergency Service Center (DESC) DESC provides integrated services including housing, emergency shelter, crisis intervention and healthcare to thousands of homeless and formerly homeless people every day.
- Seattle.gov's list of neighborhood associations A massive list of Seattle community organizations, including but not limited to community councils and neighborhood publications. A must view for those who want to get involved!
- Sightline Institute A nonprofit dedicated to urban and environmental issues in the PNW. (Submitted by Eliza)
- Real Rent Duwamish A grassroots movement calling on Seattleites to pay rent to the Duwamish Tribe for the use of their land.
- The Stranger This one is probably pretty obvious, but still good material here
- Curbed A website with a sub page for seattle about community building
- Crosscut Seattle A civic minded news site with a focus on the people of the city and other community mebers. This link is to their urban planning section.
- Seattle Neighbors A photo/personal story blog about people in seattle, with a focus on affordable housing. (Submitted by Eliza)
