Here's the general idea:
- Solve a pre-defined problem (could be an open source contribution OR an internal tool) for a bounty (basically success-fee). Not looking at GSoC level funding or problems, but something that can be done in 1-2 weeks with a 50-250$ bounty.
- Supported by mentoring and general help over slack/IRC.
- Idea is to NOT have multiple people compete for the same bounty, and to transparently publish the following data about open problems:
- open problem OR being worked upon by someone
- bounty amount
- will become open again if the bounty is not claimed till such-and-such date. This point is important because it forces the intern to focus and commit to some sort of timeline. Our experience has been that interns (especially students) go off on multiple tangents, or get caught-up with course-work, and never end-up completing.

or you can suggest your own well-defined, preferably narrowly-scoped, problem

👍 I think this is definitely an interesting model, without devolving into ad-hoc consultancy based thing that would remove much of the value of an actual internship.
