1 tbsp olive oil 15 mL
1 small onion
3 cloves garlic, minced
1 tsp chili powder 5 mL
1 tsp ground cumin 5 mL
1 1/3 cups ketchup 325 mL
2/3 cup dr. pepper 150 mL
1/4 cup soy sauce 60 mL
1/4 cup cider vinegar 60 mL
1 drop liquid smoke
Freshly ground black pepper to taste
In a saucepan, heat the olive oil over medium heat.
Sauté the onions for 4 to 5 minutes without allowing
them to brown. Add minced garlic and continue cooking
for 2 minutes. Stir in the chill powder and cumin and
continue stirring for 1 to 2 minutes. Stir in the
ketchup, the Dr. Pepper, soy sauce, vinegar, and
liquid smoke. Season with pepper. Simmer for 5
minutes. Remove from the heat.
