# Windows 7 Memory and Space tricks
## Clear space on C drive by disabling 'Hibernation'
have a look at the `Hiberfil.sys`-file at the root of C. This will be huge and can be up to the amount of ram in the system (8gb RAM -> <8gb occupied disk space)
To disable Hibernation (A **Warning** is due, I guess) enter `powercfg -h off` and this will delete the file immediately. To enable hibernation again `powercfg -h on`.
## Manage Virtual Memory
Follow [this guide](https://www.online-tech-tips.com/computer-tips/simple-ways-to-increase-your-computers-performace-configuring-the-paging-file/) on how to set up the virtual management. Basically
1. On the root drive minimize the page file to 400 - 400
2. For an additional drive or partition set the page file to 1.5x RAM (eg. 12000 - 12000 for 8gb)
3. Now the `pagefile.sys` in the C root directory will be smaller!
