EDURange meeting minutes, Day 1 of Spring 2014 Hackathon

EDURange Minutes

May 7th, 2014 (20:00)

Richard: Where do we want to be at the end of the summer?

Summer Timeline

  • Have both the recon and grammar calculator scenarios "finished"
  • "finished" meaning ready to play in a running EDURange instance
  • Some semblance of scoring
  • Enough of a tutorial for instructors to set up and students to play
  • Have a easy web UI to spin up EDURange (cloud.edurange.org)
  • Tutorials for instructors and students
  • Possibly screencasts, wiki tuts, and/or a tutorial level
  • Tutorial levels could exist for each scenario (level 0)
  • Skeleton of the webinar course
  • Webinar planned to focus on helping instructors start teaching security
  • Would help these instructors plan out a 10 week course
  • Utilize both videos and a discussion forum
  • Elf Scenario
  • Multiple and randomized injection methods and parasite types
  • Require dynamic and static analysis
  • Tutorial could include: strace, objdump, readelf
  • Scoring done by post-mortem questions
    • is this malicious? which path? where is it modified? how does it work?
