How to install Minecraft natively on Apple Silicon, the easiest way possible

1 - Download MultiMC from here

2 - Download Azul Zulu JDK from here (The version you want is Java 17, arm64, macOS, and you download the ZIP file.) Extract the ZIP file, open the folder and copy "zulu-17.jdk" to your home folder.

3 - Download tanmayb123's Minecraft on Apple Silicon package from here. Extract the ZIP and from the folder you are going to copy two files. One, the folder "lwjglnatives", and two, open the Libraries folder and copy "lwjglfat.jar". Move these to your home folder.

4 - Open MultiMC and create a new instance. Right click your instance and click edit instance. Make the following changes:

An overview of chunk loading mechanics in Minecraft 1.14, tested empirically in 1.14.4.

1.14.x Chunk Loading

Chunk loading operates differently in 1.14 than in previous Minecraft versions. This document is intended to be an overview of the 1.14 system.

In 1.14, chunk loading starts with tickets. A ticket is:

  • a ticket type
  • a load level
  • optionally, a time-to-live

Meownica's packing list

Meownica's packing list

I travel a lot so I'm down to like 30 minutes of packing per any kind of trip. I always bring one carry-on suitcase for any trips up to 2 weeks (that I never check in unless forced) -- I have an Away suitcase because it's got a built-in (removable) battery, and amazing wheels.

🚨

  • 🆔Wallet & Passport
  • 💧Travel water bottle
  • 💳Travel credit cards (don't pay foreign currency fees!)
  • 💳Insurance cards
  • 💵Local currency you have
  • 🚎Local public transport cards

1.13/1.14 update primer

This primer is licensed under CC0, do whatever you want.

BUT do note that this can be updated, so leave a link here so readers can see the updated information themselves.

1.13 and 1.14 are lumped together in this doc, you're on your own if you just want to go to 1.13 and not 1.14, for some reason.

Things in Advance

  • ResourceLocation now throw on non-snake-case names instead of silently lowercasing for you, so you probably should go and change all those string constants now. More precisely, domains must only contain alphanumeric lowercase, underscore (_), dash (-), or dot (.). Paths have the same restrictions, but can also contain forward slashes (/).

Vim script to show git commit diff in vertical split while writing commit messages
" Put this in your .vimrc and whenever you `git commit` you'll see the diff of your commit next to your commit message.
" For the most accurate diffs, use `git config --global commit.verbose true`
" BufRead seems more appropriate here but for some reason the final `wincmd p` doesn't work if we do that.
autocmd VimEnter COMMIT_EDITMSG call OpenCommitMessageDiff()
function OpenCommitMessageDiff()
" Save the contents of the z register

let old_z_type = getregtype("z")

FWIW: I (@rondy) am not the creator of the content shared here, which is an excerpt from Edmond Lau's book. I simply copied and pasted it from another location and saved it as a personal note, before it gained popularity on news.ycombinator.com. Unfortunately, I cannot recall the exact origin of the original source, nor was I able to find the author's name, so I am can't provide the appropriate credits.
