Denver Salsa Weekend (updated 2022-02-15)

There are lots of things posted on facebook about dance events in Denver... I don't really use FB and so maybe I don't know the appropriate names of the various nights so this will go according to location and night.

I happen to prefer on2, but I'll try to give a rough idea of percentanges of a particular night's preference. You can definitely find a bit of both at all places I imagine, so don't let that be deal-breaker. That being said, take with salt.

All the nights don't go past 1am, and depending on the spot/particular day things can clear out a bit earlier.

Vinue

##### Location/Time

Friday nights in Cherry Creek. Light v beginner lesson starting at 9, main dancing at 10

##### Preponderance of style

80%+ on2. This spot is primarily on2, though you can definitely find folks on1 and most of the on2 dancers can still (perhaps haltingly at times) dance on1.

In my opinion this is the best weekly dance spot. You'll likely find me here on any given friday night.

Vinue closed just before the first pandemic lock-down. It's moved location only had a few weeks before it dissolved via covid.

Cherry Creek Dance (Mambo Mania)

Location/Time

Once monthly the 3rd Saturday of every month in Cherry Creek. This is just down the street from Vinue. Starts ~9 (maybe lessson??) but I wouldn't go before ~10.

Preponderance of style

80% on2. Probably a lot of the same crowd from Vinue on Friday nights, with a potentially better turn-out from folks that don't go out quite as regularly.

This is another excellent night that I try not to miss.

La Rumba

Location/Time

Lots of nights per week, I think you could go here Thurs-Sun if you wanted with varying degrees of happiness/success. It's closer to downtown here. Historically Thursday night was best. Now I think the "dancer's" night is Sunday (DJ). Saturday typically has a live band (uncertain about this currently cuz covid). Sunday nights start a touch earlier so you could probably go ~9 with folks wrapping up earlier than the other nights.

Preponderance of style

80% on1. Some of the more zealous dancers from the on2 scene go to La Rumba on Sundays so you can probably find that, but I think the majority of folks are on1.

Teaching/Lessons

Rasta Salsa

Tom Ogunribido is my top pick amongst the current generation of teachers. (He's also my friend for full disclosure)

He teaches on1, on2, and bachata. Super fun and high energy.

Misc others

Denver Salsa Congress that happens in fall. There are a few weekender type events that will happen before the main congress.

La Rumba has a rotating sampler class at the beginning of the Sunday night festivities. Joseph Snowhawk is an organizer of events in Denver and Boulder https://www.facebook.com/joseph.snowhawk

These others often are more team focused.
