Plain and simple, copied from https://data.opendatasoft.com. This includes the 50 states, DC, and the 5 territories.
Mixed the two files above, simplifying extra fields by focusing on subdivision names and abbreviations only.
Same as above, but moved the USA territories close together so they fit better as a base for charts. Also, USA states are colored blue, its territories are orange, and Canada is FIP Red. Those colors do not show up on all places which interpret GeoJSON files (such as GitHub's representation from Azure), but they are there (e.g. at geojson.io).
Same as above, but removing the Canadian regions above the Parry Channel (roughly after the 75th parallel). Reasoning:
- that area is sparsely populated 12;
- split between only two Canadian territories (Nunavut and Northwest Territories);
- most of it all: gets very stretched out to the top in the Mercator projection, which is sometimes used for graphs (hey, Metabase).
- find a way to resize the USA island territories, so they appear better on charts without the need for zooming.
