Delightful Drag and Drop for complex interactive UIs

Drag and Drop is undoubtedly one of the most popular and user-friendly interactions in software nowadays. There are plenty awesome libraries for DnD in React realm, covering most of the use cases. We tried them all at productboard, but realized we need something special for complex interfaces we are building. We developed our own solution that satisfied three main requirements we had:

  1. Delightful user experience 🤩
  2. Great performance even for large datasets 🏎
  3. Reusability of already existing code 🔌

Advanced React.js Performance - Reactive 2015 Lightning Talk Proposal

Note: This is a submission for a Reactive2015 lightning talk. If you'd like to see a lightning talk about this (or read a detailed blog post if you are not going for the conference), vote for it by starring this gist! Thanks a lot!

Advanced React.js Performance

Performance is one of the reasons why React.js is so popular for building complex, highly interactive web applications. It became the go-to library for developers who don’t like to make compromises for technical reasons when building awesome user experiences. However even with React.js it still can be easy to hit it’s performance limits.

In this lightning talk Daniel will go beyond the basics of shouldComponentUpdate and immutable data structures and will discuss how to correctly instrument, measure and optimize performance in complex React apps. He will help you understand the overhead of different parts of the React component lifecycle, how some of it’

##Moving from Angular to React

For over a year I had been helping to create a production app with Angular. I was initially hugely impressed by the advantages Angular offered and invested a lot of time learning the intricacies of the framework.

Having being initially cautious about React as one of the many upcoming frameworks that wouldn't stick around I was hesitant to make the switch. However, after making the jump I've been using React for a few months now and been thouroughly impressed.

This will be a short talking explaining:

  • The shift in thinking when moving from Angular to React
  • The difficulties when moving from Angular to React
  • What we can learn from Angular and how having a previous knowledge of other frameworks can help significantly when creating React apps.

The installation directions for marvel -- a plugin for elastic search -- is very scant and unnecessarily indirect. The clearest instructions I found on how to install the marvel plugin through homebrew was on Twitter! Twitter! Why?! Anyways, to install marvel via brew, you can do this:

brew update
brew upgrade elasticsearch
cd /usr/local/Cellar/elasticsearch/<whatever version>
bin/plugin -i elasticsearch/marvel/latest
