Hi @gsurrel

Thanks for the list I've extensively used.

2 comments :

  • com.google.android.googlequicksearchbox : it is needed (even deactivated) for Android Auto. Its download is forced upon AA launch. You can then deactivate it (restore to factory version) and it works.
  • com.samsung.android.mobileservice" : it is needed for Samsung pay ... because you don't have any Samsung account on the smartphone without this app. And the Samsung account is necessary for Samsung Pay. Once added again, Samsung Pay works fine again.

Cheers,
GLLM

Hi @GLLM,

Thanks for the comment, I've updated the list accordingly. 👍

I haven't changed the enable/disable state as it's my personal preference for now: I have never used Samsung Pay nor Android Auto, so I don't miss them 😉

I love stuff like this! I've created and shared similar for my Galaxy Tablets, with varying degrees of detail about the individual packages, but nothing like this.

I'm going to use this to review my current app stuation for my Galaxy Tab S6.

Thanks!

Thanks for making this list! This is really handy, especially since there's no AOSP rom support for the Snapdragon model.

I'm glad it's useful to others. I needed a lot of time to track things down and try to figure out what is each package doing.

I've just updated two lines for more details (MtpApplication, and beaconmanager). The latter might be useful if you cannot connect to a SmartTV/Chromecast or a similar thing. I don't own one so I cannot test it out.

Nice. I don't have the means to test it either but I've updated my list with the explanatory parts. 'Preciate it :)

Seems like it's not possible to change wallpaper after running the script. No option anywhere in settings, and long touch on screen and choosing Wallpapers results in "App not found" message. Any idea which app it is?

/edit: Figured I have to download an image, open it in gallery and there in extra menu is option to set as wallpaper. No way to go back to the animated wallpapers from Samsung though?

Thank you for this comment! I didn't realize that I also couldn't change wallpapers (didn't try yet). Anyway here's the solution:

TO PREVENT THIS FROM HAPPENING IN THE FIRST PLACE:
Comment out these lines of the script before running:
adb shell "pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.samsung.android.themecenter" # Samsung Themes
adb shell "pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.samsung.android.themestore" # Galaxy Themes

TO FIX THE PROBLEM AFTER RUNNING THE SCRIPT:
adb shell
cmd package install-existing com.samsung.android.themestore
cmd package install-existing com.samsung.android.themecenter

Hi,

Before @markbojack commented, I couldn't understand what you meant. Indeed, I always changed my wallpapers either from the gallery of from the app launcher I use (Lawnchair). I didn't know there was a Samsung wrapper for that which appeared in the settings.

Hi,
@gsurrel Please add Device Customization App also which is "com.samsung.android.alive.service".
And why are you using -k argument?

After checking, I never have seen something close to com.samsung.android.alive.service on the few Samsung ROMs I tried.

For the -k option, as far as I remember it asks to keep the app data and cache when uninstalling. Surprisingly, this lets the uninstallation happen properly (and would otherwise fail for system packages).

After checking, I never have seen something close to com.samsung.android.alive.service on the few Samsung ROMs I tried.

I have a S6 tablet, and the only 'alive' package I can find is com.sec.android.app.soundalive. Obviously for sound. Also, I've been slowly-but-surely uninstalling stuff with SD Maid so I might have already uninstalled the 'alive' for wallpapers.

I like solid-color wallpapers so use the 112k apk size RGB Color Wallpaper (com.tecdrop.rgbwallpaper) app.

Thanks to all who are contributing to this discussion.

It was not at all possible to open the settings, via app launcher nor via the notifications drawer, it force-closes immediately

Nice work on compiling this list. One correction though - The packages com.android.cts.ctsshim and com.android.cts.priv.ctsshim actually refer to the "compatibility test suite" and not "captioned telephone service". More information can be found at the official android page here - https://source.android.com/compatibility/cts/setup

I love how Im sure we all know google services are the most bloated framework possible while google literally studied the S7 to figure out how to make a fully featured phone with a common core so effiient. and here we are still trying to poke holes in the S ecosystem when the G ecosystem literally calls back to server once every 2 minutes at least while rigging it so the pixel gets a special pipeline so its spyware is compressed much more efficiently. You gain a lot when you force all your "pixels" ie. eletronic sensors to be uniform. thats why you can only snap the way they want you to snap, what good is a drone reconnaissance op if you gave all your drone free will or artistic liberty? Itd be like having multiple languages cultures and even skin color. the google pixel is just the google glass pushing up against the line of "too creepy" as schmidt put it but it will keeo pushing meanwhile samsung will keeping hiding all the ways to sabotage it in plain sight as thir tech reviewers draw attention to how "the front selfie camera looks kinda great but kinda off" interesting,.... and while google pixels snitch on anyone with theur wifi on, samsungs only turn thier wifi antennas on when theres a stable or known connection while by default randomising the Mac ID,

So go ahead and turn that off if you want. It wont make a difference, You may think that chatter bots can sway 15 percent of people so thats all that matters but weve only begun to play the game

Huge work for sure. But I think as a "debloating" this goes too far and surely can break some functionality.
The main goal of "debloating" - which I do btw regularly myself - is to gain OS speed and get rid of privacy holes (trackers).
Its a good practice to keep stock apps that are working low level, close to manufacturer's hw. Unless they have trackers (ie. calculator or dialer having network access). To make this kind of list is a good idea however, as it lets people to inspire from it.
(Other: so now BigTech owns Github, as M$ bought it for over7 billions, in 2018, already, but I just discovered it, as I found suspicious that some political oriented banners appear on the page. How silly I was thinking its related to the opensource community. Really shocked.)

Indeed, any such operation will break some functionality. :)

This is actually a list according to my personal use case. For example, you may rely on Bixby/Android Auto/whatever else. It bloat always subjective. I found some other debloat list that actually removes everything, only keeping what is needed to keep the phone booting. To be fair, that's way too far for me: I'm happy if my phone can actually make phone calls, and not crash in normal use. Feel free to use the documented packages to fine tune to your needs, that's what matters in the first place.

Good list of what package names all the apps have.

And yes, com.sec.enterprise.knox.attestation and com.samsung.klmsagent are Knox related. That's the popup for knox to activate the knox license and is needed to be whitelisted for shared devices. (managed home screen)

adb shell "pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.android.vending" # Google Play Store

I used the script to debloat a SM-J600FN (last stock ROM Android10)...and except few error
Failure [not installed for 0] because some packages do not exist on it!
It seems that for the remaining features none is lacking on this smartphone!
