This recipe will yield around 4 arepas

Ingredients

  1. 1 1/2 cups of Harina P.A.N (Pre-cooked white corn meal)
  2. 2 cups of water (I prefer the water to be at a warm temperature)
  3. 1 teaspoon of salt
  4. 1 teaspoon of corn oil

Preparation

  1. In a bowl, mix water and salt. Until salt is dissolved.
  2. Slowly start adding the Harina P.A.N while making circular movements. Break down any lumps in the mix. Let the mix rest from 5 to 10mins.
  3. Pre-heat over medium heat a non-stick griddle or a skillet. Optionally, I like to also preheat my oven at 350°F.
  4. After the dough has ticken, add the oil and try to get it evenly distributed by taking a couple of minutes to mix everything. The dough should be firm enough so you're able to mold it but not too firm that cracks. If it's too soft, add a bit more Harina P.A.N and if it's too firm, add a bit of water.
