Hugo Academic uses the following code in the config.toml file
# Enter a copyright notice to display in the site footer.
# To display a copyright symbol, type `©`. For current year, type `{year}`.
copyright = ""
When considering how this variable is used, in the theme (the scope is larger than either of the speifications in schema.org) and how this informaiton might be fed to metadata the following analasis becomes relevant:
https://schema.org/WebSite (WebSite is a sub-type of CreativeWork and therefore inherits all avaiable properties of CreativeWork) has three relevant properties:
Property | Data type expected by schema.org | Usage |
---|---|---|
copyrightHolder | "copyrightHolder:{"@type":"Person", "name":"Hugh Paterson III"} |
Organization or Person The party holding the legal copyright to the CreativeWork. |
copyrightYear | Number (though It would make sense to put a date (A date value in ISO 8601 date format) | Number The year during which the claimed copyright for the CreativeWork was first asserted. |
CreativeWork | URL | has a license element which WebSite inherits, and should be used. |
Both of these are more basic "facts" than the genral statement that Hugo-Academi leads users towars with its instrction statements. Never the less, these two statements could be crafted together in the theme to be used to craft a fuller statement which is purpose of the existing param in the theme. I hypothesis:
#Copyright holder must be a person or a legally registered organization.
copyrightHolder = "Hugh Paterson III"
#specify year or use `{year}` to automate the insertion of the current year.
copyrightYear = {year}
#site license is an absolute URL to a license document.
license = "" # e.g. https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/
licenseName = "CC-BY 4.0"
#statement crafting for display in footer
usageInfo = "{{ © {{site.copyrightYear}} by {{site.copyrightHolder}} {{if site.licenseName}} {{.}} {{end}}}}"
