title: Design is Your Friend: Harnessing the Power of Design (and designers) in Open Source
---
It feels like an age since we all met up in person. But instead of a conference this year, we’ve put together a report gathering up some of the issues and opportunities that the open source community faces today. It’ll feature knowledge, experience and discussion, some of which grew out of conversations that happened at the 2020 Sustain event held in Brussels, Belgium.
_The full report is coming soon. If you want to be among the first to know when it arrives, and keep up with other news from the sustain community, sign up at https://sustainoss.org/

On Saturday 3rd February FOSDEM will host its first devroom dedicated to the subject of package management at ULB.
As this is the first time we’re hosting a package management devroom we want you to bring your own take. We’re open to exploring issues around distribution, verification, complexity, reproducibility, immutability, versioning, orphaning and sustaining package managers as an essential part of the open source ecosystem. Experiences, cautionary tales and ‘best-practice’ type talks are welcome. We are also considering a panel discussion.
There are a fair number of AirBnB places that are available but if you want to stay in a smart hotel while you’re here I would recommend No.1 Royal Crescent, The Priory or (my preference) The MacDonald Hotel. If you’re looking for something a little more down to earth then I would recommend The Thief which offers rooms and the pub downstairs is never too busy.
Out of town slightly there are a couple of options worth the travel into and out of town:
The Pig is a beautiful hotel and restaurant set about 30 minute drive from town Brittons Farm Estate is closer to town and in beautiful countryside setting a taxi ride from central bath.
