Updates (September 1st, 2024)

Now that I finally have a good handle on things now I wanted to give a little update as I work my way back.

  • I'm essentially working three jobs right now.
  • I've left my former "main" job. Depending on how this works out I may have free time again as I'll be work from home, kinda... I'll be able to have a console/monitor with me at "work" at the least. As time goes on my free time will go up especially after next summer. The only issue is it's a HUGE, ~50%, pay decease which effects how bad the next two points hit...
  • I may have ~$300k in taxes to pay to try and keep my late family's property in the family. That's not "tax on $300k worth of assets" but "owing $300k"
  • My computer that's been on it's last leg for a long time. Now it is randomly crashing and it appears to be a hardware issue. It's an all in one device, a Surface Pro, that's all soldered together so I can't just start swapping parts. Because of the unknown bill coming up I can't spend any money on anything n

Update on the situation/solution for the Live DNS service

Preamble

So I gotta have a minute of real talk where I'll explain the issues and why no automated solution will really solve the issue. Do not just read part of this, do not take someone else’s, often incorrect, TL;DR as what was actually said.

There's an extremely large amount of IPs trying to use the DNS for browsing on their PC (or w/e). Literally millions of requests a second. I cannot separate these out without it becoming a full time job just watching traffic and reacting. This will also cost an amount, monthly, that I'm not willing to pay for a free service. I have a way for it to work, but a fair amount of people aren't going to like it.

What have you tried?

These are the issues I'm running into:

  • It is not coming from a single IP block, so I cannot just block a certain network, ex 192.168.1.*

DNS and Update FAQ

So I feel like I need to address this specifically because there is an incredible amount of incorrect info being passed around, especially here.

DNS

My Internet isn't working using the DNS, is the DNS your host down?

No, the DNS server are both up and running. Request forwarding is disabled for non-sponsors, due to it being abused. You can read more info about the situation that caused open forwarding to be removed here. For non-sponsors connection tests will pass and will allow access to the exploit host that's running on the same server. You can also access resources directly by IP address.

Will my console update if I'm using a DNS and it's down?

  • This will install and start the Docker images
