# My Story | |
*Who are you, why are you here, and what’s next?*
I graduated college with a degree in Graphic Design. However throughout my graphic design program, I realized that I didn’t absolutely love design. However, I still wanted to be able to use my design degree. Half way through the program, I took an “Intro to CSS” and an “Intro to HTML” course. Coding quickly became my new passion. For the remaining duration of my program, I focused on building a web portfolio instead of a print portfolio. Which involved building my own personal website.
After graduating college, I immediately got a job as a Web Designer/Developer. The ideal position I was looking for at the time! I worked there for a year and then took a year off to travel and figure out where I wanted to end up. After moving to Denver, I worked as a Wordpress developer for 2.5 years at a startup. At this position I was the only developer with the company, and I felt like I wasn’t growing at the pace I could if I were working with other developers.
My company was a startup so they didn’t have enough money to hire more experienced developers. While working as a solo dev team with consistently unrealistic deadlines, I was not learning nearly as much as I could if I were working with other developers. I had a huge desire to really take my dev skills to the next level, but was not making the improvements I craved. I had been dreaming about attending a coding boot camp since I graduated college 5 years ago. After years of not feeling fulfilled and unable to land a full on front end developer position, I decided it was time to pull the trigger on a bootcamp.
I decided to take the leap and attend Turing. After a lot of research into which bootcamp I should attend, Turing became the clear winner. From the incredible community to the in-depth focused courses, Turing had exactly what I want. I now feel that I am in a productive enjoyable environment to really hone and expand my skills as a front end developer. I’m excited to see what the future holds! |
